Getting Here
From mainland Europe: We are about 40 minutes drive from the city of Poitiers.
By sea: The nearest ferry ports are Caen, Le Havre or St Malo which are about 4 hours drive away.
By air: The nearest airports are La Rochelle (1½ hrs), Poitiers (40 minutes) and Angers (1½ hrs). Bordeaux airport is a bit further away (2½ hrs). If you are coming by air, you will need to hire a car from the airport.
Our nearest main town is Parthenay, which is 12 km away and has good shops and restaurants. Our nearest village is Amailloux, which is 5 minutes drive away and has a shop, bakery and a bar and restaurant.
The Local Area
There is plenty to see and do while in this part of France including:
• wine tasting tours in the vineyards of the Loire Valley
• visits to numerous chateaux and gardens
• demonstrations by the famous Cadre Noir horses at Saumur
• a visit to The Mouton Village Sheep Centre
• a boat trip on the canal at Maurais Poitevin - the 'Green Venice' of France
• a drive to La Rochelle medieval fortified town and coastal resort.
